As we approach the end of another year. We start to reflect on the year that was and what the next will bring. Will 2026 be a year of good fortune, good health and happiness. Let’s hope so.
One thing we do know is that 2025 saw the Darwin property market rise. It appears to be finishing the year on a strong note as well.
Over my 26 years in real estate there is one question I’ve been asked every year. Is December a good time to sell? It is a valid question, given the added distractions thrust before us during this time of year. However my answer is simply, Yes.
This is why: Firstly, when home buyers are looking for their next home or investment, they typically don’t care what time of the year it is. When they find the right home, they are just glad they have found it.
Secondly, December is month when there is less competition because most others decide to wait until the new year.
Throughout my career I can honestly say that there isn’t one month that stands out over the other eleven as the most consistent leader in volumes of sale. That changes year on year. There have been years when my busiest sales month has been December.
Third and the simplest reason of all; the best time to sell is when you are ready, and that doesn’t matter what month it is.
Selling a property comes with enough to consider. There is no need to add to it by fixating on a date that may not suit you.
